PimpZilla for thunderbird
I’ve been getting a lot of mail from Pimpzilla-users asking me for a theme for Thunderbird (the emailclient of Mozilla). Though i would love to build one, this isn’t soon to be a reality. Building a full swing-theme takes up a lot of time, time that i can also spend on projects that actually make some money (like building websites) Surely ya’ll can appreciate to need to get paid!
If a paypall sort of thing can offer some doe, then i would be creating pimpzilla spin-offs all the time. What do you think? Would there be a way to collect cash without offending the open-source spirit (which states that everything is forever costless) ?
By the way: pimpzilla 4.0 is in the works

Are you thinking of donation system or compulsory buying?
If there is a matching Thunderbird theme, it would definitely deserve a donation, but compulsory buying is undoubtedly outside the whole open-source spirit…

Pimpzilla will always be free of charge. You will never have to pay for it. There just isn’t any incentive for further development, other than the glory of being the author.

And for this them you are getting plenty of glory!
I showed the theme to many, and they all adopted it…
For real, you stunned me a year ago, and I can’t imagine my Firefox without this them now. If I had that matching theme for thunderbird, that would be heaven, a pimp’s heaven!

I would definitely leave a donation if such a pimp theme became available for Thunderbird. A simple paypal donation link can often rake in a good amount of dough if people like your stuff enough.

Can’t wait to see more of that faux-white leather! Hehe
Pimpzilla rulez…

A paypal link will do the job, it’s just like the ‘Customize google’-addon, you can support them, but you don’t have to if you don’t want to.
I would make a 10 dollar/7,50 euro donation to speed up the development for the Firefox 3 Beta x!!
Love this theme but doesn’t work with Firefox 3
Pimpzilla theme for thunderbird would also be a great idea.

Hey man did you donate to the cause? Does a bear shit in the woods and wipe his ass with a rabbit, hell ya i donated and you better check yourself if you haven’t dropped some coin yet. Fool you betta recognize when you are in the presence of the phattest theme ever.

I would most definitely contribute some cash for a PimpZilla Thunderbird theme.

Hey man! I installed this goddamn version 3 and lost my beloved Pimpzilla! How about a version for Firefox 3? I’m having withdrawals!
And why don’t you do more themes? You are clearly a master of the art!

Eat a third and drink a third and leave the remaining third of your stomach empty. Then, when you get angry, there will be sufficient room for your rage.

Keep on going and the chances are you will stumble on something, perhaps when you are least expecting it. I have never heard of anyone stumbling on something sitting down.

I also would love a Firefox 3.x version of PimpZilla. I’m willing to pony up a few dollars to the cause. But themes for 3.x is so limited right now… I just hope somewhere down the line you are already working on a FF3 ready version already.

I have donated to the cause and I trust…I trust in the Lord that I will not have to face an internet without bling!. Browsing without fur because hear me brother the 17 June approaches and I have sworn to uphold the brotherhood of Firefox and download but my heart would indeed be heavy if my cruising on the oceans of the web had lost its style!!!!!! Pimp that version 3! I say PIMP IT!!!

LGT: Don’t dream, donate
And for those guys who said they would donate if there was a Thunderbird version, it’s not the way it works, you donate first, and then hope for the best. The guy already proved what he can do. Now you have to prove you are worthy of tha bling.

Here’s what I’d recommend you do:
Make a donation page that has a voting page (where people can cast votes for what you’ll theme next). Set a donation goal, and each time that donation goal is reached, start making a theme for the program that got the most votes. Weight the voting by amount of money donated, and you’ll effectively have people paying you for development.
The way I see it, there is nothing wrong with expecting money in return for making something. Many developers in the Open Source community are actually payed by companies, because those companies want what the people are being payed to develop. As long as once you develop the stuff, everybody gets to benefit, then it fits the open-source spirit. So keep it free, but don’t be afraid to ask for incentives!

I would be glad to contribute to any Pimpzilla development when I get a chance. Pimpzilla is the only theme I use in Firefox 3.5.7. And yes, it would be grand to have this theme for Thunderbird 3. One suggestion: I see the Thunderbird theme having a base-color difference, so we can tell them apart quickly on-screen. Where Pimpzilla for Firebox uses the gold, I suggest a green (or maybe yellow) animal-print type base.
Pimpzilla rules. No web browser or user should be allowed to have this much fun. But we can now.
