Pimpzilla for Firefox 3.5
Hi folks,
It’s been a while since my latest entry. A lot has happened since october, a global financial crisis, my second daughter Lisa has been born and Mozilla came up with a new version of Firefox.
I am now the proud father of 2 beautiful daughters. Emma and Lisa require lot’s of attention though, so i haven’t had the time to do some work on pimpzilla. There isn’t a version for 3.5 yet… There will be one, in due time.
Working on an opensource project like Pimpzilla is nice for the infinite honour and glory, but it doesn’t pay the bills. www.droominfo.nl (my other hobby-project) does generate some revenue. The scarse computertime that i have is being put to use on this dutch site about dreams.
I miss my furry theme in firefox 3.5 too. I WANT to create a new version.
As a father i also want to take care of my family. Projects that actually make some money have priority over other stuff. I need incentive. I will start developing on PimpZilla when revenue is reasonable for the effort that is necessary, let’s say 2500 euro. If a small percentage of the 180.000 daily users make a paypal donation, i will be on my way.
It’s up to u to speed up development. I will keep track of the incentive-status via this blog.

For anyone who is (like me) too impatient to wait for an update for PimpZilla:
Go to the Addon-Page (https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/1542) and download the Theme (do not click on the “Add to Firefox” button but right-click it and “Save target as…”. You will get a *.jar file which you have to rename to *.zip. Then open it, open the file called “install.rdf” in a text editor and change the line
3.0.*
to
3.*
Then save and rename the .*zip file back to *.jar. Now open Firefox and open the Addons-Window. There you click on the “Install…” button in the bottom left corner and then navigate to the *.jar file you just edited.
Now you only have to restart Firefox and PimpZilla will be back in it’s full glory.
The only issue i could detect so far was that the bottom end of the vertical and the right end of the horizontal scrollbars are missing. If anyone knows how to fix that error, I would be glad to hear a solution
BTW, as PimpZilla really is the only (and of course greatest) theme on Firefox that ever managed to fit my requirements, I just sent you 50 USD via PayPal.

when you donated in the past, did it say anywhere that you would be getting updates for eternity? I’m realistic about this, if we want Marco to spend time working on Pimpzilla, he can’t work on something else that may support him and his family. If you want to see it as blackmail, sure, that’s your opinion.
I do find the goal of 2,500 euro a tad bit high as well, but if I don’t agree I have several options : forget about pimpzilla, create a furry skin myself, or wait till someone else foots the bill and then ride along. Instead I opted to donate and show my appreciation for what’s been done in the past, and what may be done in the future.

2500€ is not really high.. There are 2 million downloads since start. If everyone donated 1 Eurocent is would be 20 000€
And I think everyone can afford 1 Eurocent or? I donated 50$ so that should get some going.
How hard can it be? If you like this skin and use it, then put some f**king effort in!

I wholeheartedly agree with Mista. I’ve been using this theme since I first started using Firefox and now is time to pay up so the man can afford to eat while he spends time working on our beloved PimpZilla.

Update: I have started construction on PimpZilla. I can allready promise you guys improved golden scrollbars. Firefox 3.5 support css3, which gives me a lot moren options to design with.
I will probably release the next version halfway through august.

I noticed that adblocker in not only removes the banner on this page…. It also removes Support Pimpzilla button…

Would agree to previous commenter…. Put a bigger button outside of the add… It took me some times before I even noticed the support button….

As a pensioner, I don’t have much but I sent US$10 your way in the hope it might help! I love my furry ff, I miss it, and with three computers needing their pimp love, anything I can do (within reason) I will!! GL with the growing family and I look forward to 3.5 being properly pimped =)

There are other good themes out there, but nothing compares to pimpzilla! Maybe you should get off the firefox theme site and buy ad space on Gizmodo and Lifehacker and sell it for a buck, or come to an agreement with Mozilla whereas you split the proceeds. It’s ridiculous that Mozilla doesn’t treat the add-on site like an app store and charge a buck for the downloads. You’ll never make money with Mozilla because they’re non profit. Mozilla is exploiting you, and you should be rewarded for the work you’ve done and for the work that lies ahead. Financial reward is a great motivational carrot for developers.

I miss you pimpzilla : ( Come back into my liiiife It was the only theme i everrrr used and i miss it! I get the broke thing though, ive been sick all year with vasculitis and have spent all my money trying to survive in this economy going to shit. Okay, it’s been one full day without my beautiful Pimpzilla theme, and I really hate, hate, HATE the boring, bland, so-run-of-the-mill, ugly standard default theme. I’m sending some financial appreciation your way and I hope it helps a bit. It would be awesome if you could get it ready in time for my birthday, Aug 12…LOL!
Thank you so much for doing what you do for free, when your time could be much better spent doing more profitable tasks. I picked out Pimpzilla when I first switched to FF, about 2 years ago…it’s the only theme I’ve ever used. I’ve never even looked for anything else…it’s so…me! (There’s a leopard print blanket lying across my red sofa even as I write this!)
So please…as soon as is humanly possible…BRING BACK THE BLING!

This is by faaaar the best theme for any browser I have ever seen! I can not wait until the new version is out and have been sadly missing my Pimpzilla since the new Firefox update! I’ve even bookmarked your blog so that just as soon as I have any extra cash I can send it your way and not forget! I do love this theme! If only it had options depending on mood like pink pimpzilla, etc. Great work!!!

The donation button is at the top of the homepage (http://www.pimpzilla.nl) but make sure you temporarily turn off Ad Block Plus of you’re running that, because it hides the donation button.

But would it be possible to decrease the font-size in the URL-bar? I liked the smaller font from the previous version much better.

I really love having Pimpzilla again but I think you got two things wrong:
* The links in your bookmark toolbar are a brownish color that I don’t really like.
* The font is to big in the URL bar and the search bar.

omg thank you so much for updating this! I was hanging on to an old bug-y version of firefox just so I could keep pimpzilla but i finally caved and upgraded a couple of weeks ago so I’m very grateful to you for the new version of pimpzilla! I felt naked without my white faux fur and bling-y buttons

Wonderful work, thank you so much! I didn’t even realise just how much I missed it until last night. Fantastic - my small contribution is on it’s way
One small bug I noticed, but that had been there in previous versions as well: The two small scroll gadgets that appear left and right of the rabs (when you have more tabs open than will fit the window size) are transparent, I can only see an outline but the main square area is see through to the leopard skin. With mouse-over they become half-transparent. But they do work, so it’s just a visual thing - maybe you can have a look at that some time?

I’m the Alan above who contributed in appreciation of and to the further development of Pimpzilla. Glad 4.19 was created to run on Firefox 3.5 but, as you know, it is still buggy. For example, the back and forward buttons on the toolbar jump when the cursor is brought near. A hearty congratulations on your two daughters. We’ve contributed. Can we look forward to your continued development of our furrry friend?

I love this theme. It´s very interesting with this “pimp” style, perfect to listening disco music and remember 70 and 80’s music and read the playboy (for example, jeje).
